Device for converting a rotary motion into a reciprocating motion or vice versa, in which the shaft of a gear wheel is guided in a groove or corresponding supporting means on a reciprocating body. According to the invention, the groove or supporting means and the mating toothing form a closed circuit while leaving the choice of three-dimensional configuration open, allowing the rotation of the gear wheel always to take place in one direction when the body is reciprocating.
