<p>An apparatus and method for teaching writing and performing on keyboard instruments or stringed instruments (28) having fretted fingerboards (30). The apparatus includes a marker (14) or a series of markers adapted for use on the keyboard (10-12) or fretboard (30) of the instrument. Displayed upon the marker in register with each key (10-12) of the keyboard instrument or location on the fretboard of the stringed instrument is a chromatic semi-tone number (20) assigned to the pitch sounded by each key or fretboard location. Also displayed upon the marker, in register with appropriate keys (10) on the keyboard or locations on the fretboard, is the letter designation (18) of the C-major diatonic scale. The method, adapted for use in combination with the apparatus, comprises superimposing the assigned chromatic semi-tone numbers on the traditional diatonic note heads of a musical score, and utilizing the marker to correlate the keyboard or fretboard with the musical score, thereby enabling the user to read the musical score, and perform it upon the keyboard or fretboard, more easily and accurately.</p> |
