Explosions of cartridges occurring automatically in succession inside a reservoir supply a continuous source of compressed gases used for various applications such as a gas turbine, automatic brake, or hydraulic motor. In this case the compressed gases resulting from the explosions 6 act via a piston 13 on a working fluid 4 contained in a closed circuit and channelled towards a hydraulic convertor 9 through a one-way admission valve 17 and a control valve 35 between which is a regulating chamber 20. The working fluid returns to the point of departure after passing through a reserve tank 10 and a one-way escape valve 18. A return spring 41 helps the piston to return to its initial position. A linkage system 12 dependent upon the movement of the piston 13 automatically controls the explosions. The waste gases are discharged through an exhaust 38. <IMAGE>
