Method to separate cable strands

In a process to spread out the strands of a cable such as load-bearing cables incorporated in suspension bridges, a wedge (2) is forced between adjacent strands (1) to create a gap. An inflatable cushion (3, 4) is inserted into the gap between the strands and inflated, forcing the strands apart to the required distance. The gap is then maintained by spacer elements inserted between the strands. The spacers (5) are made of wood, plastic or aluminium.
