The system is displaced along an optical axis between a wide angle end and a telephoto end. The first lens group provides an image of the viewed object and remains stationary while the second lens group is displaced when the zoom lens system is moved from the wide angle end to the telephoto end. The ratio of the incidence angles of the primary beam at the first lens surface of the first lens group for the maximum image angle with the zoom lens system at the wide angle end and the telephoto end is less than 0.92. The ratio of the incidence angles for the primary beam with the zoom lens system at the telephoto end for the maximum image angle and for a beam at infinity is less than 0.65.
