Process and device for softening water. The process of the invention consists in aerating the water and in heating it in order to quickly precipitate the dissolved calcium carbonate to a carbonate hardness of less than 6 French degrees. The only reactants necessary for this softening are compressed air (supplied, for example, by a compressor) and heat energy. The aerated water loses its carbon dioxide and tends to precipitate CaCO3. Heating accelerates this precipitation. The invention applies to any water exhibiting a carbonate hardness higher than 6 French degrees. <IMAGE>
