Device generating light effects modulated by an audio signal and method for making video recordings or films. The invention relates to a device enabling light effects to be made which have the special feature of depending very closely on an audio signal coming from a source of music. These light effects are intended to embellish the music, for example in auditoria or dance halls. The figure gives a diagrammatic representation of the device of the invention which makes the light effects. The device includes a cathode-ray tube 1, on the screen 3 of which light images are shown, the variation of which depends on an audio signal. These light images are multiplied by a kaleidoscope 4 placed in front of the screen 3. The light effects may be displayed directly by looking along the direction of the arrow 5 or projected by placing a convergent optical device at the free end of the kaleidoscope 4 or filmed by a camera. <IMAGE>
