Voltage (3) and current (19) transformers feed a sampler (21) which supplies instantaneous values to a microprocessor (16) capable of calculating the power supplied to the motor and the power output of the latter by calculating the losses from constant coefficients (R, K, Go) for the iron losses and the Joule's heat losses as well as the efficiency, after which, depending on whether the successive values of the calculated efficiency are increasing or decreasing, the microprocessor (16) increases or reduces the effective duration of the passage of current during each cycle by controlling thyristors (12).
