1,2-Diarylpropanones of the formula (I) <IMAGE> in which Ar<1> denotes 1- or 2-naphthyl, (substituted) thienyl, (substituted) furyl, (substituted) pyridyl or (substituted) phenyl, Ar<2> denotes a radical as indicated for Ar<1> with the exception of (substituted) pyridyl, Z denotes O or S(O)r, R denotes H or alkyl, p denotes 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4 and Q denotes a radical of the formulae -OR<3>, -SR<3>, -NR<4>R<5>, -CHR<6>R<7> or -COR<8>, in which R<3> denotes H, (substituted) alkyl, cycloalkyl or substituted phenyl, R<4> and R<5> denote alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, (substituted) cycloalkyl or (substituted) aryl, (substituted) aryl(C1-C2)alkyl, or one of the radicals R<4> and R<5> denotes a 5- to 7-membered (substituted) heterocycle having 1 to 3 hetero atoms, or R<4> and R<5> together with the nitrogen atom to which they are bonded denote a 5- to 7-membered (substituted) heterocycle having 1 to 3 hetero atoms, R<6> and R<7> denote H, alkyl, alkoxy, (substituted) phenyl, or (substituted) phenoxy, or R<6> and R<7> together with the C atom to which they are bonded denote a 5- to 9-membered saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbon ring in which 1 to 3 ring members can be replaced by hetero atoms and which can be substituted by one to three alkyl groups, and R<8> denotes alkyl, alkoxy or a radical as indicated for Ar<1>, have advantageous fungicidal activities, in particular against fungal pests in agriculture.
