The connecting element consists of a cuboid clamping body (1) having at least one receptacle (3) for two diametrically inserted end sleeves, and a clamping slot (6) which is assigned to the receptacle (3) and penetrated transversely by at least one fastening screw (7). An exchangeable spacer can be inserted into the receptacle (3) in order to produce line attenuation. Said spacer can consist of the tongue of a platelet held in the clamping slot (6), a wedge, the end of a pin or a setting screw. By selecting the tongue width and appropriately fixing the end of the pin, which is of rectangular cross-section for example, it is possible to set attenuation values of various stages. In the case of the setting screw, the end consists of a tip by means of which it is possible, as in wedge loosening, to set attenuation values steplessly. <IMAGE>
