PURPOSE:To prevent a developer from spilling from a developing device by using a soft elastic body to constitute a part which is in contact with a developer carrier of a seal member to prevent the developer on the developer carrier which does not contribute to development from sticking to the soft elastic body. CONSTITUTION:One end of a plate member 41 of a seal member 4' is fixed to a bottom wall 61 of a hopper 6 so that a soft elastic body member 42 stuck to the plate member 41 is pressed to a developer carrier 2 with a uniform pressure in the axial direction. An elastic body which is not easily plastically deformed like plastics, an SUS material, or phosphor bronze is formed with 50-200mum thickness and is used as the plate member 41. Since the thickness of the plate member has influences upon the contacting pressure between the soft elastic body 42 and the developer carrier 2, it is preferable that this thickness is set in accordance with materials of the plate member so that the contacting pressure is 20-100g/cm. The soft elastic body member 42 consists of a soft elastic body of silicone rubber, urethane rubber, or the like, and it is preferable that its modulus of elasticity is <=3kg/mm. |
