PURPOSE:To obtain high-density images with excellent heat sensitivity and, particularly, excellent gradation properties, by a construction wherein a heat- fusible ink layer comprises a microporous structure of a thermoplastic resin, acicular crystals of a pigment constituting a reticular structure in the microporous structure, and a colored particulate pigment. CONSTITUTION:The heat-fusible ink layer 2 is provided on a base 1. The ink layer 2 comprises the microporous resin structure 3, the acicular crystals of a pigment 4 constituting the network structure in the microporous structure 3, and a colored particulate pigment 5. A receiving sheet 6 is disposed in contact with the ink layer 2, imagewise heating is conducted by a thermal head 7 on the opposite side, whereby the ink layer 2 is melted, the ink comprising the pigment 5 is caused to ooze out between the acicular crystals of the pigment 4 and through the microporous resin structure 3 onto the receiving sheet 6, little by little. The amount of the pigment 5 thus caused to ooze out can be varied by controlling the thermal energy applied by the thermal head 7, whereby an image with high fidelity of gradations and a wide range of gradation can be obtained. |
