Arranged on a vehicle (10) at a small distance above the roadway is a distribution station (26) for road marking studs. Mounted on the vehicle is a horizontally movable pressure device (41) which presses a gripper (44) from above against the road marking stud contained in the distribution station (26). The gripper (44) presses the road marking stud out of the distribution station (26) downwards onto the roadway and it is subsequently driven at the same speed, at which the vehicle moves, in the opposite direction to the vehicle movement so that its position remains fixed in relation to the roadway and it holds the road marking stud pressed against the roadway for a given time, while the vehicle travels further continuously. The road marking studs are supplied to the distribution station (26) with the underside facing upwards and adhesive is applied to the underside. The distribution station (26) has a turning device (67), by which the road marking stud is turned before it is pressed onto the roadway. <IMAGE>
