In a transport apparatus for vessels, with a transporting starwheel (21) and a downstream turntable (22) which can be driven in synchronism, the transporting starwheel can be uncoupled from the turntable in at least one particular position of rotation, and hence immobilised. In this position of rotation, a starwheel pocket (48) stands at or immediately downstream of the transfer point between the transport starwheel and the turntable, and the next starwheel pocket in succession is immediately upstream of the transfer point. The transporting starwheel is so designed that the vessel situated at or immediately downstream of the transfer point, which has already been gripped by the retaining means of the turntable, can move freely out of its starwheel pocket. In this manner the feed of vessels to the turntable is interrupted and the latter can move on unimpeded. <IMAGE>
