A simple, compact plastic construction is proposed for prefilters (17) fitted to diesel feed pumps (11). A cupular filter housing (18) with external thread attachment accommodates a tubular, one-piece filter element (21) the strainer cylinder (31) of which is carried on the base of the housing bottom section (23) forming a seal, whilst, at the transition from the strainer cylinder (31) to a pipe socket (32) of smaller outside diameter, externally formed ribs (35) lead into the housing upper section (24) and form a flow duct (36). The filter (17) projects with one section (39) of the pipe socket (32) into the concentric, first connection (12) forming a seal and facilitating assembly and dismantling. <IMAGE>
