Method for the pretreatment of metallic forming stock

The invention relates to a method for the pretreatment of metallic forming stock, especially wire, for subsequent cold forming, and can be employed in the metallurgical industry, especially in wire drawing works. The aim of the invention is to create a simplified technology which provides better lubricating conditions in the drawing of forming stock. The object is achieved by combining a descaling process and a process in which a lubricant known per se of high dynamic viscosity, thermal stability and good adhesive power is applied, a forming stock-lubricant system being produced by bringing them into contact one or more times in a bath held at a defined temperature of at least 75 DEG C, giving a lubricant film which remains unbroken at all times irrespective of the surface finish of the feed stock in its initial state.
