In a motor vehicle the clutch pedal is coupled to a control element for the injection quantity of a diesel engine in such a way that when the clutch pedal is depressed the injection quantity is slightly increased, resulting in a slight increase in the engine speed. In this way vibrations when starting off without operating the accelerator pedal are prevented.
