Control circuit for motor vehicle automatic transmission

The control circuit monitors the setting of the throttle pedal and the rate at which the pedal is operated to determine which mode of driving is required; fuel saving of acceleration. The control also computes the gradient of the road and adjusts the engine torque accordingly. The two modes of driving, fuel economy and acceleration, are combined to provide a variation of driving mode which can be matched to the operation of the driver's controls. The control circuit derives the target settings for engine torque etc. with a minimum of delay, independent of the type of vehicle used.
