PURPOSE:To obtain a bright observable display device by arranging a selectively reflecting filter and a light absorbing layer successively on the back of a display layer for displaying a picture in accordance with a transparent state and dispersed state. CONSTITUTION:The display layer 1 is constituted of a liquid crystal panel using a dispersion mode, and a necessary segment pattern is formed. The selectively reflecting filter 2 is arranged on the back of the display layer 1 and the light absorbing layer 3, e.g. black paper, is arranged on the back of the filter 2. Incident light is transmitted through the display layer at the part A of the transparent mode of the display layer 1 and light of a specific wavelength, e.g. blue, is reflected by the filter in the obliquely lower direction, so that the observer detects the light as black light. The incident light is dispersed and transmitted at the part B of the dispersion mode of the display layer 1, blue light is reflected by the filter and then dispersed by the layer 1 again. The light transmitted through the filter 2 is absorbed by the light absorbing layer 3 and blue light is observed at the part B. A solar battery may be used as the light absorbing layer 3 and bright and observable color display can be attained. |
