PURPOSE:To reduce the space required for a common electrode on the surface of a head, by a construction wherein an insulating layer is provided on a substrate and a common electrode, a heating resistor is provided on the layer, and current-passing electrodes are provided which are connected to the common electrode through the resistor. CONSTITUTION:In the thermal printing head 1', the second common electrode part 7b' extending in parallel with the longitudinal direction of a belt form continuous heating element 2 and the third common electrode part 7c' extending in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the heating element 2 at a central part of the insulating substrate 3 are provided on the upper surface of the substrate 3, the insulating layer 8 is provided on the substrate 3 and the electrode parts 7b', 7c', the continuous heating element 2 is provided on the insulating layer 8, the the common electrode 7 is connected to the current-passing electrodes 6 through the heating element 2. Accordingly, since the common electrode parts 7b', 7c' are provided on the back side of the insulating layer 8, no surplus space is required for providing the common electrode parts 7b', 7c' on the surface of the head, whereby the heating element 2 can be provided at a position sufficiently close to the edge of the substrate 3. |
