Hot gases are produced in a heating chamber 1, and water is added to these gases so that it is vaporized and mixed with the gases. In order to bring about complete mixing and good heating properties, the hot gases are conveyed from the heating chamber 1 into a swirl chamber 2, in which the gases are set in swirling motion. Water is fed into the swirl chamber 2 essentially in the vicinity of the central axis 10 of the chamber so that the water is mechanically mixed with the hot gases when it is displaced to the periphery of the chamber by the action of the swirling motion in the gases and is vaporized by means of the thermal energy contained in the hot gases. The mixture of the hot gases and the vaporized water is led out from the swirl chamber 2 essentially at a point in the vicinity of the central axis 10 of the chamber at the opposite side of the chamber in relation to the water supply side. <IMAGE>
