PURPOSE:To automatically detect the original size and the type (book or sheet) of an original and to make suitable copying by detecting the dark and light part of the original and the original cover and clocking a scanning time at the change time point of the dark and light part in spare exposing scanning. CONSTITUTION:A picture detecting means 100 detects the dark and light part of the original and the original cover, and a timing means 102 times each scanning time up to the charge time point of the dark and light part. The timing result is stored 30. The dark part scanning period is selected by a selecting means 104. Further, the 1/2 operation of the scanning time to reach the change time from the light part to the dark part finally detected from the exposing scanning starting time point of the original or the change time point from the dark part to the light part detected first is operated by a calculating means 105. A searching means 106 searches for whether or not the calculating result is included in the dark part scanning period. When the 1/2 of the scanning period is included in the dark part scanning period, central part of the original is dark so that the original is discerned from the book. Consequently, since the change of the dark and light part is detected, the original size, the book and sheet can be confirmed and copying can be easily executed. |
