The arrester has a lower edge cable (6), and between it and the upper edge cable (5) is a cross net (12) connected to both cables. The cross net (12) comprises thin wires of e.g. plastics forming two groups of parallel strands. The groups are angled w.r.t. each other forming points of intersection at which the crossing wires are joined. The cables are connected to drag lines (8,9). The wire groups engage the propellor or propellors of an aircraft, bringing them and its engine or engines to a gentle stop. The arrester can also be of single-use, destructible construction. |
