PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium having satisfactory wear resistance and superior durability by incorporating a fatty acid ester which is solid or semisolid at ordinary temp. and an unsatd. fatty acid which is liq. at ordinary temp. into a magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:A fatty acid ester having 15-60 deg.C m.p. is preferably used as a fatty acid ester which is solid or semisolid at ordinary temp. When the fatty acid ester is combined with an unsatd. fatty acid which is liq. at ordinary temp., the fatty acid ester can be incorporated into a magnetic layer in the form of a soln. in the unsatd. fatty acid, so the deposition of the fatty acid ester on the surface of the magnetic layer is effectively inhibited. Since the fatty acid ester dissolved in the liq. unsatd. fatty acid is locally present near the surface of the magnetic layer without causing deposition on the surface of the magnetic layer, a very significant lubricating effect is produced. The wear resistance of the magnetic layer is sufficiently improved by the lubricating effect combined with the significant lubricating effect of the unsatd. fatty acid which is liq. at ordinary temp. |
