PURPOSE:To prevent deposition of platinum in the periphery of electrode by placing no platinum on a part of electrode which is not actually in contact with electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst activation component is not supported on the surface of an electrode which is not actually in contact with electrolyte. For example, mixture slurry of 450mg of polytetrafluoroethylene and a catalyst comprising 450mg of acetylene black and 50mg of platinum is applied so as to form a square having a side length of 10cm to the central part of one surface of a square carbon substrate having a means pore size of 30mum, a thickness of 0.44mm, and a side length of 14cm, and mixture slurry of 450mg of acetylene black and 450mg of polytetrafluoroethylene is applied to its periphery. The substrate coated with slurry is dried at 140 deg.C for 2hr, then baked at 350 deg.C for 30min to produce an air electrode. |
