Method for splicing waveguides and splicing device

The method involves ignitioning arc discharge using a preset discharge current. An actual intensity distribution of a thermionic emission which occurs at the optical waveguide (1,3) is measured and compared with a reference intensity distribution. When a variation of the intensity distribution occurs the discharge current is readjusted so that the actual intensity distribution value is closer to the reference value. Preferably the readjusted discharge current is stored as a preset discharge current for following splice processes.
