A yarn made of material known as nylon intended to be employed in woollen fabrics is obtained by performing melt-spinning at high speed, while damping the yarn at a tension of between 0.57 and 0.86 grams per denier and while reeling the yarn under low tension to obtain a stable roll. The yarn is preferably not heated after its fast cooling. The yarn has an elongation of less than 52 %, a maximum Kanebo retraction force at a temperature below 150 degrees C, an equatorial half-width of discrete diffusion DXPA of at least 3.6 degrees, and a tenacity lower than the smaller of the following two values 5 grams per denier and [(6.8 - 0.06 x % elongation)].
