Apparatus allowing the magnification of the image of teeth during dental examination

The apparatus consists of a support (1) which carries a ring (2) in which a magnifying lens (3) is crimped and which terminates in an attachment ring (4). The apparatus is fixed to the shaft (12) of the mirror (10) by means of the attachment ring (4). It is possible to slide the apparatus along the shaft of the mirror in order to adjust the clarity of the mirror/lens assembly. During normal dental examinations by means of this apparatus, the image of the teeth will be greatly magnified (approx. 3 times), and will thereby markedly facilitate the detection of abnormalities such as caries. Since the lens remains outside the patient's mouth, the apparatus is no more complicated to use than a simple mirror. <IMAGE>
