PURPOSE:To produce the titled compound useful as an intermediate for chemicals, agricultural chemicals and pharmaceuticals, etc., in high selectivity under low temperature and pressure condition compared with the conventional cobalt catalyst, by reacting vinyl chloride with carbon monoxide and hydrogen in the presence of a rhodium catalyst, a base and water. CONSTITUTION:The titled compound is produced in high catalytic activity compared with the above known catalyst, economically, by reacting vinyl chloride with carbon monoxide and hydrogen preferably at 20-100 deg.C in the presence of (a) a rhodium compound preferably free from halogen, (b) a base, preferably a mixture of one or more compounds of formula P(R<1>R<2>R<3>) (R<1>-R<3> are alkyl, aryl, cycloalkyl, alkoxy, aryloxy or cycloalkoxy) and one or more nitrogen- containing compound having a pKa of 4-10 and selected especially from pyridine compound, quinoline compound, imidazole compound or morpholine compound, and (c) 0.001-100pts.wt. of water based on 1pt.wt. of vinyl chloride. |
