Perfluoroalkylpropanediol is prepared by first preparing a solution which is homogeneous under the reaction conditions and comprises water, an inert organic solvent from the group comprising ketones, ethers, sulphoxides or sulphones and a perfluoroalkylpropylene oxide and reacting this solution at 20 to 200 DEG C, if necessary under pressure, in the presence of at least one monomeric or polymeric sulphonic or carboxylic acid. The acid is used in an amount containing 0.001 to 0.5 g of acidic H atoms per mole of perfluoroalkylpropylene oxide used. The process enables perfluoroalkylpropanediols to be prepared in one step, in good purity and yield, virtually no waste products polluting the waste water being formed. |
