In clamping devices, e.g. for machine tools, there is the problem of constructing the clamping-drive means (SA) in such a way that it takes up little space in its longitudinal or working direction and of obtaining at the same time a large guide length and thus stability. To solve this problem, the clamping-drive means (SA) has a coupling member which is displaceably mounted in a supporting member (TO) and has in turn a cylinder bore (ZB) extending in the displacement direction. A piston (K) connected to the supporting member (TO) engages in this cylinder bore (ZB). The piston (K) thus supports the movable coupling member. The latter is connected via a reversing mechanism to clamping members (SG) likewise movably mounted relative to the supporting member (TO). <IMAGE>
