In a method for cleaning filter elements in a cartridge filter, the filtercake is, after draining the liquid out of the pressure filter vessel, removed from the cloths by means of an explosion-like shockwave. The wave generated by a compressed gas first forces the filtercake onto the cloth and tears it off after expansion by a suction wave. The residues drop into the lower part of the vessel and are removed from there. The method is less aggressive for the filter cloths than backwashing.
