The thread (F) taken off from a bobbin is guided in a straight line between the discs (3, 4) of a disc tensioner located on a support (5, 6). The lower disc (3) is provided with a central opening (7) serving for dirt removal and is driven by a drive (21, 22) running outside the disc circumference. The upper disc (4) is circumferentially centered and can be pressed resiliently against the lower disc and also has a central opening (8). The lower disc (3) rests on a rotary cage (10) which leaves the central opening of said lower disc (3) free and is mounted in the support (5) of the thread tensioning device. An additional thread guide lug (38) is arranged in the space of the two disc openings (7, 8), in the axis of the thread travel, to prevent the thread straying out of the gap of the discs due to a rotation of the latter. This lug (38) is arranged on an expanding clamp (40) which projects from below through the central openings of the rotary cage (10) and the discs (3, 4) and is detachably fixed to the support (5). <IMAGE>
