PURPOSE:To eliminate the clogging of a ceramic filter in an initial period of casting and to stably remove micro-inclusions by disposing a thick-walled metallic plate gate in front of the filter on the inlet side thereof. CONSTITUTION:The metallic plate gate such as thick-walled iron plate gate 5 is provided in front of a gate 5 provided with the ceramic filter 6 disposed in a tundish 1 and the molten metal in the initial period of casting is poured into the tundish from the upstream side. The gate prevents the contact of a molten steel with the filter 6 until the level of the molten metal contg. slag, large-sized inclusion and refractory dust in the initial period of casting arrives at the top level of the filter 6 or during the prescribed floating time in this state. The iron plate gate 7 melts after making the floating treatment to allow the molten steel contg. only the micro-inclusions to contact with the filter 6. The steel having high cleanliness is thus supplied to the downstream side.
