There is an information sign, for example for hydrants, with a plate 1 of plastic which is provided with an information carrier in an area 4 and carries a mounting device 2, 3. In this connection, it is desirable if the information sign exhibits an electronically scannable or readable electronic information carrier which is adapted to the nature of the information sign and, nevertheless, is of simple construction. This is achieved in that at least two rectangular contact pins 8 are supported in the plate 1 in the information carrier area 4, the end contact faces 11 of which contact pins, and plate surface surrounding these faces are located in a common plane at the front and which protrude from the plate 1 at the rear and carry a soldered-on data storage wafer 12. The information carrier can be interrogated for the stored information by means of a sensing probe or reader, the information which is associated with the stored information becoming visible on a screen provided at the reader. <IMAGE>
