In an apparatus for the continuous advance and correctly positioned holding of the group of wires in the welding zone of a diagonal-grid welding machine, to which zigzag wires with overlapping crests are fed for welding along parallel paths, continuously driven toothed discs (40, 41) which engage by means of teeth on already welded grid meshes are provided to ensure continuous grid and wire feeding, and positioning elements (16, 17 and 18, 19) which move with the zigzag wires and each engage in crests of the zigzag wires within the welding zone defined by the welding electrodes (14, 15), which act perpendicular to the grid plane, are used to ensure correctly positioned holding of the zigzag wires. <IMAGE>
