The invention relates to a method for producing an electrical coil having a plurality of windings whose starts and ends are passed out laterally. In order to provide such coils with a virtually uniform construction even in their layers having winding starts and ends, in each case one end of the wire (1) forming a start of a winding is bent at right angles, and the bent wire section (8) is placed on to the coil former (9) parallel to the coil axis. The bent wire section (8) is thereafter pressed by means of a clamping device (43, 44) against its support and subsequently forms the winding.
