The invention relates to a coupled gear between the drive motor of a locomotive and its driven wheels. The motor (1) drives a first hydrostatic axial piston unit which drives a second hydrostatic axial piston unit (5) via a hydraulic fluid circuit (4). At least one of the two hydrostatic axial piston units (3, 5) is of variable volume. The shaft (6) of the second hydrostatic axial piston unit (5) is connected to the first input shaft of a planetary gear (7) whose drive (13) is connected to the driven wheels of the locomotive and whose second input shaft (2) is connected to the shaft of the motor (1). <IMAGE>
