PURPOSE:To make it possible to carry out speed shift operation in accordance with the condition of a running road, by obtaining an acceleration when the opening degree of a throttle valve and the speed of a vehicle fall in a predetermined condition to compare the thus obtained acceleration with a standard acceleration, and by controllng the reduction ratio of a speed change gear in accordance with the result of the comparison. CONSTITUTION:An acceleration computing means 2 receives a throttle opening degree signal from a throttle opening degree detecting means 1 and a vehicle speed signal from a vehicle speed detecting means, and computes an acceleration under a predetermined condition. It is possible to determine the inclined condition of the running road by comparing the thus computed acceleration with a standard acceleration, and therefore, when an acceleration signal delivered from the accelerator computing means 2, a reduction ratio control means 4 delivers a signal for setting the reduction ratio to a speed change gear drive means 5 in accordance with the difference between the acceleration and the standard acceleration. With this arrangement, even if the inclination of the road is in any condition, appropriate speed shift operation may be made.
