A device has a piston (5) which can move in a cylinder barrel (2) and has a connection between its two sides and, in the region of its piston rod (9), a projection (7, 8) which extends axially over its sealing part (6) and in which there is provided a bore (18) connecting its inner side and outer side. To provide better guidance and centring of the piston while avoiding dry friction, the projection (7, 8) has a guide part (8) which interacts with the cylinder barrel (2) and between which and the sealing part (6) there is provided a spacer part (7) having the bore (18). Provided on the outer circumference of the guide part (8) is a throttling connecting point (19), which interconnects at least one of its two end faces and in the region of which the guide part deviates from its circular cross-section in the direction of the axial centre (Fig. 1). <IMAGE>
