CONSTITUTION:An electronic control device 60 delivers turn-on and off signals to a direct coupling clutch solenoid valve 46 and a counter speed change gear solenoid valve 48 to control them in accordance with data from a throttle opening degree sensor 61, a vehicle speed sensor 62, a rotational speed sensor 63 and a shift position sensor 64. The control of failure determination for the rotational speed sensor 12 is made by the electronic control device 60. That is, when the manual shift range is set at a running range at a vehicle speed higher than a predetermined value and when the gear stage is at such a position that a sun gear shoud be rotated, if the rotational speed NS of the rotational speed sensor 63 is below a predetermined value Nset, it is determined that the rotational speed sensor is not normal but fails.
