Inspection apparatus for the successive inspection of a plurality of articles having a common set of features of interest comprises an edge detector for the positional location of individual articles. The edge detector is fed from a scanner which captures an image of a region in the vicinity of a located article. It analyses the significance of features detected by the scanner and selectively controls the processing of the derived data in order preferentially to obtain data relevant to the features of interest, thereby speeding up processing time. |
