PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent dust from entering a device and being stuck on optical components and to sufficiently cool heat generated in the device by providing an optical block inside a casing in a sealed structure and a connecting means or the like for circulating air while connecting the casing and the optical block. SOLUTION: This device is provided with an optical block 6 inside a casing 2 in the sealed structure and a passage 25 as the connecting means for circulating air while connecting the casing 2 and the optical block 6. Liquid crystal light valves in three colors and a polarizing plate or the like inside the optical block 6 are heated by light from a light source and air warmed with heat radiation from these optical components is exhausted from an opening 11a to a space 26 of the casing 2 by forced circulation by a fan 27 provided in a duct 12 of the optical block 6. The air cooled like this passes from the space 26 through the passage 25, enters a case 10 of the optical block 6 via duct 12 and cools the liquid crystal light valves and the polarizing plate or the like.
