PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve quality and to reduce the cost in a focal-plane shutter for a camera. SOLUTION: The front blade traveling mechanism 4 of the focal-plane shutter A is equipped with a front blade driving lever 11 for driving a front blade group 2, a locking lever 12 locking the lever 11, and a voice coil type motor 13 being a linear type motor for releasing the locking of the lever 11 locked by the lever 12. By energizing a coil provided in the movable part 13b of the motor 13, the movable part 13b linearly moves and presses the motor receiving part 12b of the lever 12, whereby the lever 12 rotates left-handedly, the actuation piece 11a of the lever 11 is disengaged from the locking part 12a of the lever 12 and the locking of the lever 11 by the lever 12 is released.
