A thermosetting resin having high thermal resistance, high strength, flame resistance, and good processability can be obtained by reacting polycarbodiimide substantially produced from one or more kinds of organic polyisocyanate with crosslinking agents having two or more active hydrogen groups in their molecules, one or more kinds of compounds having epoxy groups in their molecules or compounds capable of accelerating the trimerization reaction of carbodiimide. Suitable crosslinking agents include aminotriazine, 4,4'-isopropylidene diphenol, 4,4'-diamino diphenyl methane and derivatives thereof. Suitable epoxy compounds are monofunctional epoxy compounds, e.g. epichlorohydrin, glycidyl ethers e.g. diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A, glycidyl esters or glycidyl amines. The polycarbodiimide may be reacted with a novolac phenolic resin. An organic monoisocyanate may be present during the preparation of the resin.
