PURPOSE:To make current density on the surface of solid electrolyte tube uniform by forming metal fibers which are impregnated with sodium and filled in a sodium ion conductive solid electrolyte tube in a sheet-like felt, and arranging around a current collecting tube. CONSTITUTION:A sodium-sulfur battery is formed with an anode chamber formed by impregnating sodium ion in metal fibers filled in a sodium ion conductive solid electrolyte tube, and a cathode chamber formed by impregnating molten sulfur serving as cathode active material in graphite felt arranged around the solid electrolyte tube. The metal fiber in the anode chamber is formed in a sheet-like felt 9, and the felt 9 is spirally wound around an anode current collecting terminal tube 8 so that the main direction of fibers locates vertically in a length direction of the solid electrolyte tube and the pore ratio in the inside is lower than that in the outside. Thereby, the contribution of sodium to cell reaction is made uniform, and breakage of battery can be prevented. |
