PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To derease the emission of carbon monoxide due to reaction of a crucible for melting silicon with a carbon crucible into which the above crucible is inserted. SOLUTION: By repeating an arbitrary number of times, an operation in which silica sand 7 is scattered on the surface of a slurry layer to form a stucco layer 3 after making a slurry mixed with silica powder adhere to the outside surface of a quartz crucible part 4, the slurry layer and the stucco layer 3 are alternately superimposed, and the crucible superimposed with these layers is fired. By using the resultant crucible 1 for melting silicon, the emission of carbon monoxide is decreased. The fringing preferably is conducted at 600-1,200 deg.C for 0.5-12 h.
