PURPOSE:To improve the diffusion of reaction gas by stacking a plurality of unit cells each of which consists of a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and an electrolyte layer with the first, second and third stacking elements, and impregnating electrolyte in pores of porous carbon material. CONSTITUTION:A unit cell is formed with plate-like negative electrode 1 and positive electrode 2 each of which is supported with a catalytic layer, and an electrolyte layer 3 placed between electrodes 1 and 2, containing concentrated acidic solution as electrolyte. The first stacking element 6 made of porous carbon plate having fuel gas flow grooves 10, the second stacking element 7 made of gas nonpermeable thin carbon plate, and the third stacking element 8 made of porous carbon plate having oxidation gas flow grooves 9 are arranged between the unit cells and a plurality of unit cells are stacked. Electrolyte is impregnated and held in pores of the stacking element 6 to form a fuel cell. The electrolyte can be held without decrease in cell performance and the diffusion of reaction gas can be improved. |
