PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To operate under a wide-range peripheral light luminance and to maintain high-quality image pickup. SOLUTION: This image forming device is provided with an image forming circuit 101 provided with an image forming array 102 on a die and a photodetector 109 arranged on the die similarly so as to be adjacent to the image forming array. This photodetector detects the luminance of irradiation to an object to generate a signal expressing the luminance of irradiation detected by each detector. These signals are used for adjusting the exposing time of the image forming array, a light source for irradiating the object and/or the output amplifier gain of the image forming device. Furthermore, these signals can be used for deciding the alignment of the image forming array to the object such as a two-dimensional barcode.
