The nitriding of structural steel and cast iron is achieved in a two- phase gas nitriding process. In the first phase from 1 to 5 parts by volume of carbon monoxide, and in the second phase from 7 to 30 parts by volume of carbon monoxide are introduced per 100 parts by volume of ammonia. The process is carried out at 500-650 DEG C, with the first phase occupying 50-90% of the total nitriding time. |
